First I'd like to wish all of you a Happy New Year! I hope
you all rang in the New Year with friends and family and champagne!
For those of you who follow me personally on my social
media pages (Facebook and Instagram), you all know that Sean and I announced
our marriage on New Years Day! I'm sure some of you are shocked since we kept
everything very quiet, with no engagement announcement or other engagement
pictures and all that jazz... But what you don't know behind the one picture we
posted and status change is that we have been married since June 12, 2013.
Three weeks after having Honor, Sean and I decided to tie the knot with only
our immediate family knowing. Since Honor was only three weeks old at the time,
we didn't want the stress of planning and spending and everything else that comes
with getting married. We wanted to keep everything short, simple and sweet
(mainly my request). We made an appointment at our local courthouse and on June
12th at 3:30 pm, Sean and I were married in the presence of Honor & my parents
(our witnesses). Though it wasn't a huge extravagant event, it was nothing
short of perfect and meaningful to me and just as I wanted. As we shared our
vows we both shed tears of joy (oh lord, here I go shedding tears writing this
lol!) and exchanged our wedding bands.
So many of you who know me would expect the complete
opposite of my small and quaint ceremony, thinking I'd want this big huge
announcement, wedding and celebration. But much to everyone's surprise, the
thought of that much attention on me as a bride gives me anxiety! (Shocking! I
know!) We decided to wait on announcing our marriage for so long because we
wanted to bring in the New Year in a special way that meant something to us as
a new little family. Having Honor in 2013 was a huge accomplishment &
blessing for us, aside from getting married after all these years... But we
wanted to just finish out the year with Honor being our biggest news and
focus.
I'm sure many of you are confused by the different dates on
Facebook, from 12/31/13, 1/1/14... But New Year's Day just shows the status change
- we did not get married on New Years Day. Our actual marriage date is 6/12/13.
Going from being in a serious committed relationship, to
now being "newlyweds" and married, is no different to us than before.
We have been living a married "life" for countless years now (5 going
on 6); only thing different now is that I represent the last name of the man I
have loved for so long.
We apologize to those who may have felt slighted that we
didn't share the news when it first happened months ago, but for our own
personal reasons, this is exactly how we wanted it all to happen.
